Internet scams abound-our latest escapade
Here is the latest internet scam I want to share so that nobody else (well, I didn't get taken, but could have) gets caught up:
We were selling something online and I know many of my crochet friends make lovely things and sell online. Yesterday we got a cashiers check in the mail to the amount of $5000! For something that we were asking only $300 for. Well, of course that sent up a flag and we contacted the bank and verified that indeed it was a fraudulent check. But had we not, we could have been out $4700 AND had our funds frozen at our local bank for maybe months! Here is the copy of (most, I left our name out) of the email the person sent after we told her/him (?) that we got the check in the mail:

Just had to share this with anyone who may be selling online, we happened to use US Garage Sales.com I think, but I imagine any selling/auction site could be hit by people like this. Since they are out of the US it is hard to bring bear charges especially if you don't actually lose any money. It is times like this I wish I had many blogs to post this on. Suffice it to say I will share this with my Groups!

One of the key things I think of in email and online scams, is the poor spelling. If they can't spell it's probably a fake.
